ANCHORAGE,
Alaska—Friends
of Nike Site Summit will host a national
Nike veterans reunion in
Anchorage,
Sept. 11-13, 2009. All veterans who served at Nike missile sites in the United States and abroad are invited
to participate along with their families.
The event’s agenda is still being developed, but
tentative plans include a tour of Nike Site Summit, one of the last Nike
sites to be closed (1979) and which Friends of Nike Site Summit is
working to preserve. A tour of
Anchorage, opportunities to share stories and
photos, a luncheon with keynote speaker and a briefing on efforts to
preserve Site Summit are among the anticipated options for participants.
The Sheraton Anchorage Hotel is the reunion hotel and is offering a
rate of $119 a night. Contact the hotel at (907) 276-8700 or
to reserve rooms online/ Be sure to specify the Nike Reunion
to get the rate, which is available for several days before and
after the reunion.
“The summer rush will be over, fall colors should be at their prime,
the weather will be cool but not cold, and most importantly, it will
still be fishing season without the crowds. If groups are
interested, we can get special rates for other events (tour boats,
etc.) after the reunion,” Durocher said.
